This F-105D ‘Vietnam ANG’ was a 44th TFS aircraft flown by Captain H BYATT. It was one of six F-105Ds lost in a single day on 27 July 1965 while making the first concerted attacks on Hanoi’s SAM sites. The pilot on that occasion was Captain Bob Purcell who was taken prisoner.
