The MiG-23MF flown by Major Muwafaq, CO No.39 Squadron, when he claimed an Iranian F-4, using a single R-23R missile from a range between 12 and 14 kilometres, near Ahwaz, sometimes in 1983. Of interest is the standard camouflage pattern as applied on all export MiG-23s, albeit in slightly darker colours than on MiG-23BNs and later MiG-23MLs. The serial is from the times after 1988: a MiG-23MF with this serial was found by US troops at the al-Assad AB, in 2003. The plane is shown carrying its standard load, consisting of R-23R and R-60 missiles.
