An IrAF MiG-23BN depicted as loaded for one of furthest-reaching missions over Iran, on the afternoon of 22nd September, 1980. The aircraft is carrying two FAB-500ShN parachute-retarded bombs. Three drop tanks were carried as well: one under the centreline and two under wings: the later had to be jettisoned before the actual attack, so to enable the pilot to move wings. Also shown is the insignia of the No.29 Squadron IrAF: consisting of a falcon head, with Number 29, a brown cliff, sea and three birds, it was originally showing a Hunter, and then a MiG-21, before the unit re-equipped with MiG-23s, in the mid-1970s.
