116 Squadron was established in 1956 on P-51D “Mustang” and Mystere IVA that were involved in Suez Campaign facing superior egyptian MiGs and Meteors. In 1961, the 116 squadron phased out the P-51D and reformed solely on the Mystere IVA operated for the next ten years. In 1970, the 116 squadron began receiving A-4E Skyhawks, operated three years later in the Yom Kippur War. The IAF purchased their first F-16As in 1980. A year after their arrival in Nevatim AB, the planes were deployed to bomb the Iraqi nuclear reactor of Osirak in Tuwaitha during operation “Opera” in june 1981. The #107 was in service with the "First Jet Squadron" at the time of the attack. The green triangle in the nose shows for it. #107 is the world’s highest scoring F-16.
