Model: Tupolev Tu-16 “Badger”
Serial: s/n 566
As of 1967, the No.10 Squadron operated the “long arm” of the Iraqi air force: nine Tu-16 bombers delivered from the USSR five years earlier. Based at Habbaniya airfield, this unit dispatched two of its bombers into an attack on Israel, on the early morning of 6 June 1967. The plane depicted here successfully attacked the Ramat David AB, hitting several buildings in the process. The other Tupolev missed its target, Tel Nov AB, and after being intercepted by two Mirages, ended at low level over Ramat David AB as well, before being shot down by MIM-23 HAWK SAMs over Megiddo.
