Hawker Hurricane MkI P3395 Flt Lt Arthur Victor ‘Darkie’ Clowes DFC, DFM was credited with 11 kills, during the Battle of Britain he flew with 1 squadron which during the battle was based at both RAF Northolt and RAF Tangmere. Clowes continued to fly P3395 when the squadron was sent north to RAF Collyweston to recover from the Battle of Britain in early September 1940. P3395 was written off on March 24th when following a training flight it made a wheels up landing. Clowes survived the war but passed away on 7th December 1949.
