The 70th Fighter Aviation Regiment (70th IAP) was a military unit of the Red Army Air Force. It took part in air battles in Khalkhin-Gol and in the Soviet-Japanese War. The 70th Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed in June 1938 in Bain-Tumen (Mongolia) by Colonel Maslov on the basis of the 29th Fighter Squadron of the Fifth Fighter Group.
It joined the 100th Combined Air Brigade of the Transbaikal Military District Air Force. By the decree of the Supreme Soviet Presidium of the USSR, on November 17th, 1939, the 70th Fighter Aviation Regiment was awarded the Order of the Red Banner for valor and courage shown by the pilots during the combat missions.
